Taking Off…

Hello everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that I will be absent until after the weekend. I took 3 of my 4 kids to the doctor yesterday, two different trips and a large bill later found out we have bronchitis, pink eye and an ear infection. Can you say “Mother of the Year Award”? To add insult to injury I’m feeling a little poopy myself. With all this going on, I’m really behind on the everyday mundane chores that make this family go ‘round. I’m taking some time to play catch up and rest so I don’t get worse. With all these germs I may have to take a Silkwood shower…

Have a fabulous rest of your week and an even more fabulous weekend!!

French Dot

I really need to figure out a way to recreate this. You can buy sheets of Nama Rococo wallpaper but unfortunately, it’s still out of my budget. I would love to have two, one for either side of my dining room doorway.

Kitchen Dreaming

After cleaning my lower cabinets today I realized they REALLY need to be repainted. There was so much spilled food, dirt and dust I now realize I should not have white-ish cabinets with sticky fingers running around. I’m thinking keeping the uppers white and the lowers a dark dark grey.

Here’s some inspiration pics…

A Little Excited…

I’m not really a gadget person, but I’m quite giddy about getting this…

Yes, I realize I’m the last person in the world to own an Apple device but it’s not like I don’t have a cell phone at all. I have a BlackBerry but the trackball is starting to wear on my nerves, it never quite works well when I need it to. I had gone back and forth about getting an iTouch, but since my son’s MP3 player (yes, we love our generics) broke it was more affordable to replace my phone rather than buy an iTouch AND a new MP3 player.

And since I’m an accessory whore I’ll have to get one of these covers from daninotes

Honestly, if not for these I wouldn’t really care what kind of phone I had!

Blogs I Heart: Style Your Life

Style Your Life

If there is one thing I struggle with it is fashion. Definitely not my strong point. I can find the clothes I like but I have trouble putting it all together. Well, Jennifer’s blog “Style Your Life” makes putting together outfits look so easy. Plus, they are pretty friendly on your wallet.

Here’s a taste of a few outfits that I would like to have…UntitledUntitled

Also available on her website are lookbooks and virtual outfits for $5!! I’ve already put in an order for my tomboy daughter, she needs some serious help! Make sure to visit Style Your Life to see what she has in store today.

And I’m Spent…

Yes. That’s as far as I got when I called it quits. The finish on the table was a lot harder to get off than the chairs. As you can see by the handprints I put all I had into it. With warmer weather this weekend I will be taking it into the garage and using the electric sander.

On a happier note, the chairs are done!

BeforeAfter chairs

Hopefully by the end of the week the table will be done. So while waiting for the warmer weather I figure I need a DIY project to tie me over…

Valentine’s Treat

With Valentine’s school parties looming I really need to kick it in to gear and get some treats.  Wal Mart’s selection was pretty sad, but I heard Target had some good ones.  Well this year I’m doing something different.  I found the best idea here that was originally found here

I need to take some unified pictures, but this is what I played around with so far…

I love how in some pictures you can actually tell he’s saying “cheese”

I printed it off just to see how it would turn out and even my 11 year old said it was “so cute”.  I figure with little man still in PreK  my days are numbered as far as the cute stuff goes.

I’ll post the final choice in a few days…

Remember my estate sale finds? Well, the lamp ended up not working but I got my artichoke done…

Before… 002

Of course the day after I got it done I went out shopping and I saw white artichokes everywhere, mocking me! I still like mine and I’ve decided to keep her. Now I just need to find her a home…

I Need to Stop…

That is, I need to stop daydreaming about all the projects I want to do and actually finish the one’s I’ve started. The dining rooms chairs are painted and I’m hoping they look good, the lighting in our basement is hideous so they could have drips and missed spots all over. I need to start sanding the table and paint it. Unfortunately, I want to take the wallpaper down out of the hall bath, which is not horribly offensive it doesn’t match the style of the rest of my house…

It’s toile and yes the countertop is marbled green with green tile. I’ve got big plans for in here..

Also, my entry could use some sprucing up…

003 Not much to look at…

I think the problem is I get bored. As crazy as that sounds, but with the bigger projects taking longer, I start to lose interest 3/4 of the way through and want to move on to something else. Maybe that’s why things don’t get done around here…

So tell me, do you have to step away to get some renewed enthusiasm for your project at hand?

Super Bowl

Did anyone watch the Super Bowl last night?  Did anyone care?  I watched bits and pieces, but couldn’t miss the halftime show!  Love the Black Eyed Peas!  I  was rooting for the Packers, only because that’s who my son wanted to win.  I have to say, it was a really good game,  I love nail biters.

I was a little disappointed by the commercials, which as everyone knows is the most talked about part of the Super Bowl.  My son was at a friends house watching the game and he is 11.  I had an uncomfortable feeling when Kim Kardashian’s Sketcher commercial came on…

Knowing my son was watching this bugged me, I’d like to keep him in a bubble for a little bit longer.  My favorite of all night was the Darth Vader commercial

What did you all think of the commercials?   Are they becoming a let down?

Blogs I Heart: Three Men and A Lady

Three Men and a Lady

Is it weird to get so excited to open up a blog to see what they have in store for you to read?  I didn’t think so either.  Michelle at Three Men and a Lady has a GORGEOUS home.    What started as a blog by her husband to keep up with family has grown into a blog of  home design and DIY.    She was recently featured on Houzz.   Hop on over to her blog and take a tour of her home.  It’ll be love at first sight!

Here’s a sneak peek…

I have the perfect frame to copy this project in.  Hope you don’t mind Michelle…

Her office/den…

This is some serious goodness…

Was that enough to get your tail wagging?   If not, look at what she did  with her old/new bike…

You can read the whole post hereThree Men and a Lady is one of my daily reads and I know it will be yours  too.

Hunkering Down…

Well, it’s a second snow day in a row due to our recent blizzard. Personally in all the years (my whole life) of living in Kansas City I can’t say I’ve ever heard of a blizzard before. I’m actually a little embarrassed to say those words considering how bad the East Coast has gotten hit! So, with the 12 inches of snow outside we are staying put for a couple days and since the hubby will (fingers crossed) be taking off a couple days I’m going to make the most of my time.

Secondly, I want to thank EVERYONE who has been reading my blog in the short time I have been doing this. Your comments have truly made it worthwhile. I apologize for not contacting all of you directly so please don’t be offended, but I truly appreciate all your kind words. I was quite nervous about starting a blog and in all honesty haven’t even gotten enough courage to tell my family or closest friends. Is that bad? I guess I was worried that I’d be talking to myself, that I wouldn’t have any readers so I just wanted to see how it went for a while. My nerves are starting to relax, thanks to all of you…

High Gloss Premiere

Thanks to Live Creating Yourself, I’ve been turned on to a new online magazine High Gloss.

They even give a shout out to the blogs they love , and one of my favorites, Jenny Komeda of Little Green Notebook. Kudos to Jenny!

Also, another favorite blogger of mine Nicole Cohen of Sketch 42 is featured. She is an artist and has a shop on Etsy. Nicole has a gorgeous apartment was recently featured in Rue Magazine (page 100). If you haven’t seen it check it out, the story that goes with the pictures is beautiful. Get all the skinny on her sources here and here.

I love that there are online mags now. I’m not a huge fan of magazines and newspapers laying around the house so online is right up my alley. If you haven’t seen the premiere issue, check it out here.
