Dining Room Table…Check

Since my dining room is taking longer than I would like (my fault) I’ll have to give you little peeks until the big reveal…

021 I used Rustoleum Black Gloss paint on the top and feet. To add a little fun, I decided to paint the pedestal silver. I love the way it turned out…unfortunately, I still have 3 leaves to paint!

What do you Get?

When you mix a little of this and a lot of that?

003 Some left over gallons and leftover paint samples from Sherwin Williams.

Free paint of course!

004Or so you would think.

So after mixing my concoction I got to work.

Here is the before…

kitchen before

Not a great representation, but it’s a celery green.

I was a little stressed while painting because what I thought looked gray in the bucket was actually looking more blue as I painted. I got one full coat, slept on it and sadly what I hoped was going to look more gray in the morning still looks blue.

Here’s what it’s looking like now…

kitchen walls

kitchen wall 3

Two different walls. The top one is more gray and the bottom more blue. What started as a great solution has quickly turned to a big pile of poo! Thank goodness since there is not a lot of wall space I can get two coats out of one gallon.

Imagine how eerie it was to see Jenny’s post this morning about silver leafed cabinets. The reason…Last night when my 4 year old woke up with a bad dream I started thinking about her original post about silver leafed cabinets. The original post was back in Jan. and she got hers done. Sadly, I have done nothing but think about it. I’ve been considering doing it to our tv console but haven’t pulled the trigger.

I can’t STAND seeing all the crap inside. Yes, organizing it is a solution but even then I don’t want to have to see what’s in there.

This is my ideal console…

For now, replacing it is not an option so I’m gonna have to work with what I got…

Could be Addictive…

That Pinterest is some crazy goodness.  I did have quite a time trying to figure out how to add the “Pin It” to my toolbar.  I started to feel like my 70 year old parents trying to figure out a new cordless phone.  YOU STILL PRESS END TO HANG UP!!!

Anyway, how fun is this…

The tutorial can be found here.  I don’t speak French so thank goodness there were pictures.  I did notice l’alcool and Vodka.  Either you’re suppose to be drunk on Vodka OR that’s how you transfer the print…use your own interpretation.

**Found the English version here, and I guess your not suppose to drink the Vodka…

Little Changes…

Imagine how excited my husband was when he came home from work Friday night and I told him I needed help with a couple things!! Well, he could barely contain himself…HA!!

First, we pulled the rug back so it was under all the legs of the couch. Every time we sit down the couch pushes back against the windows and smooshes the curtains.

Second, I wanted to bring an old sewing machine table up from the basement. My family room is long and there’s an area I’ve struggled with.

I got the table a few years back from a family friend and never really knew where to put it in this house. So, sadly for over 5 years it has lived in the basement. Let me tell you, it is here to stay! It was so damn heavy and there’s no way I can help move it up or down another flight of stairs. The reason it’s so heavy? The sewing machine is still inside…

I’d love to have it displayed because the detailing is so pretty but there’s too many curios fingers around here. You definitely can buy like this anymore!

Obviously, it is not “styled” to my liking and since the top is a little flawed I’m thinking of getting a tray, I don’t have the energy to take on any refinishing. Perhaps something like this…

On Saturday I FINALLY made it over to Vintage Market which until recently had only been open the last weekend of every month. I had a little ginger jar in my hands when I spotted this…

007 I have been having a hard time finding a lamp for this little corner. When I saw this I remembered when we moved in the previous owner had had a light hanging from the ceiling. So, back went my ginger jar and this came home with me instead. I am tempted to give it a little face lift but I’m going to live with the way it is…for now.

So here is my little corner this morning…

And I’m very happy…

What The…?

Happy Spring Break??  Here’s what Kansas City looks like today…At least the weather’s not here to stay.  I’m going to regroup today and try and get some projects going, things have been a little stale here at chez Lemondrop.

Ever Heard of a Snart?

My husband and I were crying doubled over laughing at 30 Rock tonight. What's funnier than a fart!

Spring Break…

I’ve already mentally started my Spring Break, although it’s not official until noon tomorrow. The kids are going to be home for a week and I have to admit I’m a little nervous about what we’re going to do with ourselves. The only thing I’m really looking forward to is sleeping in!!

In all honesty, I’m dreaming up what projects I want to do with a week of non interrupted days and no schedule to worry about. Ahhhh, Freedom!! I would love to repaint my kitchen including the cabinets and my room. Or maybe I should start on my drapes for the dining room. I’d also want to do some batch cooking and freeze some meals to make the weekdays a little easier.

As far as kids stuff, perhaps a trip to the library or book store. Maybe a park since the weather should be nice, finally…

Any ideas to keep 4 kids and a mommy sane for a week? We don’t want any Spring Break casualties…

I cannot even begin to describe how mortified I was when I picked my son up from pre school the other day. My kids have been going to the same pre school for 8 years now so I know the teachers pretty well. Nonetheless, I wanted to break down in tears when I walked in and they told me my 4 year old had had about 10-12 meltdowns!! They had already told me a few weeks ago that they were working on a reward system for him, he’d get a treat if he didn’t get upset at school. I couldn’t believe this was happening. I expect fits and tantrums as home, but at school! I wanted to die!

On this 10-12 tantrum day, he was getting upset over stupid things. Not standing by a particular person in line, not being goose in duck, duck, goose and something about circle time. The teacher went so far as to say that he was being called crybaby and starting to be excluded from games. My heart broke.

I am seriously beside myself with what to do. I’ve NEVER experienced anything like this with my older two. He is by far the wildest of the bunch, although the fourth might give him a run for his money…

014 nothing like coffee grounds mixed in the sugar to start your day off right!

So, I get him in the car and tell him it sounded like he had been naughty at school. He told me it wasn’t fun, he didn’t want to go to school, he didn’t like it!! I don’t know what to do. The teachers have not told me of any problems he’s having with other kids and that his behavior started in Jan., when he turned 4. In reality, the way they describe events that set him off sound more like him acting like a brat, not getting what he wants when he wants it.

We’re trying to remain calm with him, making him stop crying and talk so we can understand him but now it’s time to throw down the hammer. I have to say if I really analyzed how he is disciplined, I would say we’ve gotten lazy, tired and inconsistent. We try not to give in, but some days it’s “give him whatever to make him stop the crazy train”.

Do or did you have a child that regressed? What did you do to correct it? What tricks worked for you?

Camera Strap Tutorial…

Yesterday a group of us celebrated one of my very close girlfriend’s 40th birthday. She loves accessories, for anything and everything! So, since she got a Cannon camera for Christmas I figured I’d make her a camera strap slipcover. I’m not going to show the tutorial but you can find it here.

Here is what I created…

038 Bottom

Better yet, it didn’t cost me anything!! I just used some fabric I have in my shop and bim bam boom, done…

I was so excited today when I got an email from Jennifer that my virtual outfits had arrived!!  I had her put together 5  outfits fro my daughter.

Here’s a little back story on my daughter.  Up until 3 years of age I had complete control over what she wore.  Then on her 4th birthday she woke up SO excited and said “Now I can stand up when I use the bathroom”.  Obviously, overnight she gained some sort of gender confusion.  She has one older brother and two younger ones.  SHE IS MY ONLY GIRL  and she wishes she was a boy.  Church, dining out, etc. borders on WWIII on what she will wear.  She’d prefer jerseys and on more than one occasion I have had to tell her to stop wearing her brothers underwear.

This is what she went as for Halloween this past year…

013 (2)

She wore her brother’s football uniform, BUT I made her wear a braid and a red ribbon.  Don’t get me wrong, I understand the tomboy thing, but can’t you still wear girl clothes and play sports?  Needless to say, she does not get this characteristic from her mother!!

I called in reinforcements and here is what Jennifer came up with for my daughter…

BQcDAAAAAwoDanBnAAAABC5vdXQKFlVDT2RyR2RFNEJHSXpkc29xYldOUEEAAAACaWQKAXgAAAAEc2l6ZQ Unfortunately there’s no way in h*!@ my daughter would consider the purse & I can live with that.  Or … she’d want to carry her baseball cards in it

What I love is that she has used the pieces to mix and match, that is definitely my weakness.  I get in a rut and wear the same clothing combination over and over.  If you have not found Style Your Life blog you need to go take a look.  She links all her choices to the websites they come from.

Plus, virtual outfits are $5 each!!   She sends you a questionnaire to fill out and goes based on your likes, dislikes, what your need the out fits for, etc.  Based on my questionnaire she did really well, no glitter, rhinestones and not a lot of pink.  In my opinion it was money well spent.

PS.  Here’s a link to Jennifer’s post on the outfits, all the links are posted under each pic.

Done or Just Getting Started…?

What a week!!  I had three kids to the doctor last Monday, I went on Wed. (well, Minute Clinic) and another one BACK to the doctor on Fri.  I never ended up feeling better and the wee-ist one was very sick all weekend, 104 temp, so back he went on Mon. to his doctor and I went  across the hall to my doctor.   After SEVEN co-pays and almost $150 in prescriptions I’m officially tapped!

So, as I laid in bed last weekend with a raspy voice (think transvestite), ear infection and the start of a sinus infection I was able to do a lot of blog reading.  I noticed on a couple blogs they posted about certain designs being “done”.  Over at LGN Jenny got a comment from a reader on a post she did about DIY Draper chests.  The reader commented about some designs being overdone, we’ve seen it everywhere…everyone’s doing it…

A couple days later at Black Velvet Chair Samantha posted about chevron.   She loves it but it’s been overplayed and overused over the past year…

So, it got me thinking.  I feel these are a few things that I think are overexposed, but yet I can’t seem to let go of wanting them somewhere in my own home…

I will admit I do replicate images I see in magazines, books and online  for my own home BUT although I’ve seen the images or styles quite a bit, my friends and family have not.  It’s all new to them.  If I referred to an Eames chair/rocker, they would not know what I’m talking about.

I guess with any new home decor or fashion item it’s going to be in your face.  Are these the styles that are the new classics?  Are they already classics and are coming back into circulation?  I guess time will tell.

This is something that I’ve been seeing more and more lately that I think is going to be the new hot trend, although it's already been a trend in the 60’s maybe 70’s…

I say, don’t give up what you love and want to surround yourself with because you feel it’s “done”.  I will continue to decorate with styles I see in the print magazines, online magazines and blogs.   How else would I get inspiration?  No matter what styles you put in your home, it is all put together by you and in the end that’s what makes it your style!!

I’d love to hear what you can’t get enough of and what makes you want to throw up a little if you see it again…
