Done or Just Getting Started…?

What a week!!  I had three kids to the doctor last Monday, I went on Wed. (well, Minute Clinic) and another one BACK to the doctor on Fri.  I never ended up feeling better and the wee-ist one was very sick all weekend, 104 temp, so back he went on Mon. to his doctor and I went  across the hall to my doctor.   After SEVEN co-pays and almost $150 in prescriptions I’m officially tapped!

So, as I laid in bed last weekend with a raspy voice (think transvestite), ear infection and the start of a sinus infection I was able to do a lot of blog reading.  I noticed on a couple blogs they posted about certain designs being “done”.  Over at LGN Jenny got a comment from a reader on a post she did about DIY Draper chests.  The reader commented about some designs being overdone, we’ve seen it everywhere…everyone’s doing it…

A couple days later at Black Velvet Chair Samantha posted about chevron.   She loves it but it’s been overplayed and overused over the past year…

So, it got me thinking.  I feel these are a few things that I think are overexposed, but yet I can’t seem to let go of wanting them somewhere in my own home…

I will admit I do replicate images I see in magazines, books and online  for my own home BUT although I’ve seen the images or styles quite a bit, my friends and family have not.  It’s all new to them.  If I referred to an Eames chair/rocker, they would not know what I’m talking about.

I guess with any new home decor or fashion item it’s going to be in your face.  Are these the styles that are the new classics?  Are they already classics and are coming back into circulation?  I guess time will tell.

This is something that I’ve been seeing more and more lately that I think is going to be the new hot trend, although it's already been a trend in the 60’s maybe 70’s…

I say, don’t give up what you love and want to surround yourself with because you feel it’s “done”.  I will continue to decorate with styles I see in the print magazines, online magazines and blogs.   How else would I get inspiration?  No matter what styles you put in your home, it is all put together by you and in the end that’s what makes it your style!!

I’d love to hear what you can’t get enough of and what makes you want to throw up a little if you see it again…

I poured through each and every comment when Jenny posted this on LGN. Such a good topic and yours are all spot on. But, like you said I still love them all! I don't think I'll ever get over Suzani or Ikat, I'm just a bohemian eclectic at heart. I'm sort of sick of seeing too much going on in a room ala Domino to the extreme. I'm more about subdued style and a hint of glam these days though. Maybe that just means I'm getting older!

I also love Eames rockers; however, I'm reluctant to get one because they seem to be everywhere. (Different reasoning than "being overly 'done'.)

I will never be 'over' concrete counters. ; )
