Eye to Eye…

The hubby and I don’t always see eye to eye when it comes to home d├ęcor.  Don’t get me wrong, I pretty much get free reign and he lets me put pink wherever I want, as long as it’s not in the man room.  He’s very “it needs to function” and I’m more “it needs to look pretty”

His desk has seen better days, it slopes and he can’t get his legs under it when he sits…

I showed him a picture of this…

He asked where he’d put his computer.

What the shit?!?

He has a laptop…not this…

Looks like I’ll be thrifting for a desk instead…

Guest Post from Primitive & Proper…

Today I have Cassie from Primitive & Proper.  She may very well be the queen of furniture makeovers and hosts the most fabulous link parties!  Take it away Cassie…
Hello lovely lemondrop Dreams readers!  I am Cassie from Primitive & Proper and I am so excited to be here on Colleen's blog!  I am a huge fan of hers and have been since I saw this bad boy.... remember it?  SWOON!

I was planning to share a fabulous project with you today, but I have had my car break down as well as puking kids this past week, so instead I am going to share my master bedroom design.  Hope you don't mind!  My family has recently moved into a new-to-us home and we are loving it!  So far, we have worked on our guest room, living room, and dining room.  I haven't worked on any rooms until I have had a clear vision of the room and how I want it to look.  I finally have that vision for the master bedroom.  The room is much larger than our old master.  Here are some images of how it looks about now- and keep in mind this is a total BEFORE.  These pictures were taken the week we moved in.

The look I am going for is a blend of "rustic glam" with a dash of mid century modern.  In the nook where you see the dresser now, I would love to get an armoire to house the tv.  Since I am a novice at moodboards, I am just going to put some images together instead and then explain it all! Sorry! :)  And you can just click on the image for the original source.

Benjamin Moore - Gray Owl
Ok, so let me explain it all now....
The square of pale gray is a color called "Gray Owl" from Benjamin Moore.  (And of course we will paint all that icky trim white!)  That will most likely be the wall color- I want the room to be soft and serene, but still slightly warm.  The rustic bed is going to be the focal point.  We have the frame and a neighbor who is super handy and has offered to make us a similar planked headboard!  Yay!  We will use our existing nightstands and I plan to keep the mirrors in them and glam them up with some gold leafing!  This is what they look like now, but I want them to look like the nesting tables above.
We have the white parachute bedding from West Elm which will stay, as well as the rustic gym style bench at the foot of our bed.  I would love to move the TV into an awesome French styled armoire- either painted a very worn gray, or given the aged wood treatment.  The mid century white dresser will also stay but move to the right side wall and the big gray gesso mirror will sit above it.
So there you have it!  That is the plan for my master bedroom.... gray and white, rustic warmth, a touch of French, a touch of glam, and a touch of mid century modern!  Hopefully when it's all done it will be the haven my husband and I need!  If you liked what you saw above, feel free to visit my master bedroom pinboard!
Colleen, thank you so much for having me here today to share my plans with your readers!

Thank you Cassie…I am in l-o-v-e with that bed!  Can’t wait to see how it all turns out!!

I’m Weak…

So, I’m participating in Tiffany’s No Spend Challenge and have stumbled…but with VERY good reason!

I cannot drive past an estate sale sign…for some reason it seems like a mortal sin.  So over the weekend I stopped by one close to home…

I’ve been wanting to replace my side tables with some lighter, metal ones…

Table 2

Rue Mag

Brass-plated Iron and Glass Hexagonal Side Table (India)

Iron and Glass Accordion Side Table (India)

The first picture I save forever ago and pretty sure I can’t afford…the other two are more than I’m willing to pay…

012 (2)

So, it was destiny…sitting there waiting for me, calling my name was a set of gold and glass nesting tables…

I’m weak!!  But since they weren’t at a store I didn’t have the luxury of going back on Feb. 1 to buy them…

And, look what they match…my bar cart!!

See, they weren’t meant to come home with me…and they were only $30!!

Guest Post from Living Savvy…

Today I have Tiffany from Living Savvy!  So happy she joined me today…if you haven’t checked our her blog, it’s a MUST!  Great tutorials and DIY’s.  I am participating in her No Spend Challenge , with just one little slip over the weekend (more on that later)…so without further ado, take it away Tiffany…
Hello!  I am Tiffany from Living Savvy!  I am an interior design that has high end taste on a very low end budget!  I love to DIY almost everything!  This month I am hosting a No Spend Challenge.  This is to basically challenge everyone NOT to spend anything on home decor but to reuse, repurpose, and rethink what they already own.
Here is one of my latest No Spend project:
Recently I was flipping through the newest Crate N Barrel catalog, and came across this item:
I looked at that and thought... I could totally make that!
I reached into my cabinet full of plain glass cylinders and pulled out three different sizes.  Plugged in my glue gun...
And just started adding rings.  You could make them as thick or thin as you like.
I wanted to change it up a little bit so I did dots down the side of one.
This one I kept on adding more and more rings... much like the CnB one.
All for free!  Are you up for the challenge?  Stop on by and see what it is all about!
Living Savvy
Thank you so much Colleen for letting me visit and share and EASY and FREE project!

Thanks again Tiffany!  Make sure you stop by Living Savvy and say hello!
