Home is Where Your Story Begins…

I know a family that moved here about four years ago.  I cannot even begin to explain how fabulous this family is.  Gorgeous, smart, athletic, beyond genuine and as sweet as can be…

Sadly, in Feb. their house caught fire after having their chimney cleaned.  It started after the kids had gone to bed in the master bedroom AND, her husband was on a plane back home.   The roof collapsed, what wasn’t ruined by fire was by smoke and water.  What’s even scarier is her husband was on a plane back home!!

They have lived in a couple friends homes (vacant for different reasons)  since then and have recently decided to move back to her home town.  They lived on about 40 acres, a path running from their house to her parents.  They have horses, cattle, goats and who knows what other animals…They’re Ralph Lauren country…

They never sold their home but it is much to small for them.  They came from a two bedroom A-frame and have four kids!!  So they have decided to gut and add on to their existing home.

I ran into her at an estate sale about a week ago that was going on two doors from the house they’re currently staying in.  After chatting for a few minutes she asked how she goes about having me help her decorate…

Well, since then we’ve been hitting the estate sales and I’m pretty sure her hubby is not going to let me play with her anymore if she keeps coming home with furniture and no place to put it…

Here’s a few of the purchases we’ve made…

for her 15 year old…

It will probably turn into something like this…

She also scored a vintage matching set,  3 cushion sofa, settee and chair, unfortunately  no picture…we plan on separating the pieces.   When she was staying in a friends/neighbors house after the fire, the owner had one that was stained with a brown tweed fabric that she loved…the plan is to have the settee refinished and reupholstered into something like this…

Amalfi Sofa

or this but with upholstery…

She’s not sure where she’ll put this but she’s going to find a spot…

and lastly…

So, she came over to my house the other day and as we were walking around and I was explaining everything I was going to do, where I found things, yada yada, I started to feel a little guilty because here she is, having lost everything that had a story…I reassured her that in her “new” home, everything she puts in it will have a story, she WILL have stories again…

We went over to another friends house to look at her newly refinished house and guess what she had above a doorway…

Amazing how we take things for granted. Your friend's story puts things in perspective.

What a great story. And I know you are going to do a bang up job for her - the pieces you've found so far are killer.

Wonderful eye! Love everything you've found together. What a joy her home will be as she will never take, what so many of us take, for granted.
