DIY stair runner…

I should have posted this the other day since this is the reason for the immediate painting of the entry floor
Our stairs have always been quite boring and I always wanted to have a runner…
ever since I saw Jenny’s DIY stair runner I have wanted to tackle the project myself…I’ll admit I was intimidated, so it sat on my Pinterest board until I gained enough courage…and found a suitable affordable runner…
I ordered this one from Overstock.com
Safavieh Indoor/ Outdoor Courtyard Black/ Bone Rug (2'3 x 10')
I liked it but it seemed really dull on the stairs…so I ordered two of these
Safavieh Indoor/ Outdoor Courtyard Black/ Beige Rug (2'4 x 12')
It still felt dull on the stairs…so I decided for this to all work, the stairs must be painted…it wasn’t hard to pull the trigger since I felt like they were a little beat up anyway…

I wanted a strong contrast and that is what I got…the whole process was pretty easy, except for cutting one of the rugs too short and then coming up short for the last step which led to having to spend more money to order another runner!!

Raise the roof to you mamma! It looks amazing!! Especially with the entry floor and your fab grosgrain and nailhead trim. Bravo!

This is fab! Found your post, as I'm searching for a way to DIY a stair runner, too. How did you secure the runner to your stairs?

You inspired my husband and I to order this same runner, just different color! We plan to start this week. Just one question...when cutting the rug, did you use anything on the edges to prevent from fraying? Have you had any issues with it fraying since?

I'd like to know if your runner frayed at all and also how you secured it to the floor. I love this look. Great job.

I have not one but two trianglish shaped landings. I can see you have one half way up...what did you do with it? Also did you paint your wood stairs?

What kind of paint did you use in steps so they don't scratch
