hot legs…

Maybe not hot, but cute…
I wanted to love my box pleat loveseat, and I did for about a minute, but the length bugged me…
006
and it was not quite like the inspiration picture…
So I took off the slipcover hemmed it to half the length and painted the legs, which were pretty beat up…

thank you craigslist…

I’ve been wanting an étagère for my work space to hold my small fabrics and what nots…
I don’t utilize CL as much as I should, mostly because I can’t figure out good search terms to find the good stuff…
BUT while doing my weekly étagère search I happened upon these little pretties…
etagere
I will be spraying them gold, of course, and dreaming that they really look like this…

work it girl…

I’ve got a great work space that’s all mine…It’s in the basement and about 4 years ago we put up a wall the length of the basement to give me a work space, storage and the kids a place to play…we even added doors to separate it all…in case you’re wondering, the large cut out in the wall looks into the kids space, we put it there so when I’m downstairs on my side and the little one’s are on their side they can still see me and hear me but keeps them out of what I’m doing…make sense?  Good, let’s move on…
A year ago…
042
After a major cleaning last year we got the space organized and easier to work in…but, it was still depressing and filled me with anger at it ugliness…
I started this year again with a good clean up and we organized the furniture I’ve been hoarding collecting to give me more space to work in…
The walls got a coat of white paint…did you know you can get paint for $10 a gallon at Lowe’s?? Well I did not,  so when we went to get some other supplies I picked up a couple gallons of Olympic flat white…very basic but why invest in basement paint??
I bought some table legs at Ikea when I was in TX this summer and I had some filing cabinets that the hubby bought at an estate sale…I knew what I had in mind…a massive work table with storage…

I painted the legs gold and the filing cabinets glossy white…I used a Krylon gold leafing pen for the handles…

We got the wood at Lowe’s and had them cut it to size…the hubby got a gift card for Xmas and I had a return so I was out $0 for the wood…
It’s oak and it stained fabulously…3 coats of lacquer and a cheap high later I have 12 feet of glossy purtiness!!

Still lots of work left to do but now I’m not pissed when I go downstairs and work on a project…

seeing spots…

The man room got some new pillows…
Waverly "Spot On" pillows
with cording and a zipper thank you very much!!!
I used the same fabric from my chair, Waverly’s “Spot On” in Blackbird, because I love it SO very much

They will more than likely end up on the window seat but for now this is where they sit…

bookcase do-over…

After packing away all the Christmas décor, I left my bookcase empty for about a week, not sure what I wanted to do with it..I really wanted to take a saw to that damn country scalloped trim…but I digress
001
I wanted the  back to be more glossy so I added a coat of lacquer…I would love to do more but I wasn’t sure if I was going to pass out or throw up from the smell so one coat will have to do…
I was looking around the grand old web waiting for inspiration to hit…

Seeing the similarities??  I wanted to hang something on my bookcase because it’s my house and I can do what I want!!
So I did…

she has her issues…

I’ve been sitting on this fabric for a while…
new york print fabric
with the intention on using it on my little bench
painted upholstery bench
My staple gun and I are still in the dating phase so I was really nervous about going too far too fast…
DIY upholstered little bench
Don’t look too closely, she definitely has her flaws, she took a beating when I pulled staples
I had to do the trim twice, burned myself with the hot glue gun and dropped quite a few expletives…
DIY upholstered little bench
You can tell it was my first time, I’m sure she’ll get another facelift… she sits in my hallway so she won’t see a lot of action which is a plus…

But I’m happy with her… I think I’m ready to be in a  monogamous relationship with my staple gun!

momma’s new chair…

Queen Anne is my least favorite style of furniture, no offense to the Queen Anne lovers out there…
I’m wanting to move my Chippendale arm chairs into the family room which will leave me short a seat in my workspace…
I had a chair like this laying around…
not cute…but a coat of leftover Sherwin Williams Lucky Green, change of fabric  and voila!!

window cushion…redneck style

This is about as hillbilly as it can get…
When your poor from hemorrhaging money for the holidays but need a DIY fix bad…real bad… then you have to work with what you got on hand…a window cushion for the man room
Step 1:  go to Lowe’s and wander up and down the aisle wondering what kind of wood to get…wait impatiently for someone to come around so you can get it cut down to size…when you explain to the nice man what your doing he comes up with the brilliant idea of looking through the scrap pile and only charging you $1 for wood…
of course, it will look like this…but do you care?  Hell to the no, it was $1

Step 2:  dig out the 8th Wonder of the World, aka duct tape, and tape the two scraps together…don’t worry if you're out of neon green, any color/style will do…
Lemondrop Dreams: window cushion...redneck style
Step 3:  cut to size and piece together your leftover/random/mismatched pieces of foam
Lemondrop Dreams: window cushion...redneck style
Step 4: get the duct tape out again and tape the foam together…then, find a wide but not long enough piece of batting, cut lengthwise and overlap slightly to cover foam… sorry no pic
Staple everything to the wood, sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor…

and this was all done with minimal cussing…

where has 2012 gone??

That seems to have been the fastest year ever!  I hope 2013 moves at a little slower pace…
I was starting to feel a little done on myself thinking of all the things I still want to get done around here but then realized I kinda kicked it in the butt getting a lot of things done…
So here goes my gratuitous horn tooting of 2012…
I started the year with a major overhaul of my workspace…funnily enough this year started the same way, lots of work getting done down there…
042
hall bath underwent some cosmetic surgery…
002
started my first paying decorating gig, definitely became a domino effect, still finishing the last room of the house…
108
made slipcovers for the first time…
001
and they reside in my newly made over dining room
011
and another huge room overhaul…yummy!!
005
Much more up my sleeve for 2013…what projects are you all cooking up for the New Year??
